Gordon Ramsay has said he's "proud" of his daughter Tilly's response to a radio host who called her a "chubby little thing".

"I think it was a breath of fresh air, that level of standing up and saying, 'We're not going to tolerate that,'" he said on an Instagram Live.

Tilly Ramsay criticised LBC host Steve Allen's comments as a "step too far".

"It made me feel very proud that she stood up and said, 'I'm not taking this'."

After Steve Allen make the comments, 19-year-old Tilly said people should be free to voice their opinions but "I draw the line at commenting on my appearance".

The LBC host has since privately apologised to the Strictly Come Dancing star.

Gordon said someone's weight is "a very sensitive issue whether you are a girl or a guy", admitting he's struggled himself.

What did Steve Allen say?

The LBC presenter had read out a comment from a listener telling him Tilly was taking part in Celebrity MasterChef Australia as well as Strictly.

He responded: "Is she? Well, she can't blimming well dance, I'm bored with her already.

"She's a chubby little thing, isn't she? Have you noticed? Probably her dad's cooking, I should imagine."

Tilly, who's a CBBC presenter, directly addressed the comments in an Instagram post saying she "won't tolerate people that think it's okay to publicly comment and scrutinise anyone's weight and appearance".

She said she tries not to pay attention to what's written or said about her, but being "called out on a national radio station by a 67-year-old man is a step too far".

Tilly said she's faced comments about her appearance in the past and that although she is learning to accept herself, words can still hurt.

After posting her statement on Instagram she was inundated with support from her Strictly co-stars.

It Takes Two presenter Janette Manrara wrote: "How fast we forget what hurtful comments can do for someone's mental health."

Tilly's professional Strictly partner Nikita Kuzmin was also among those to send a supportive message.
